All District Schools Closed Thursday (Jan 9)

Dear SGUSD Community,

We hope this message finds you safe during this challenging time.  We want to express our deepest empathy for everyone in our community who has been impacted by the recent fires.  Our thoughts are with those who have faced evacuation, hardship, and especially for those who have lost their homes.  We stand with you as a District family.

After careful consideration and out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to keep all schools in the District closed tomorrow, January 10th.  This decision was made due to:
  • The significant number of District staff that have been impacted by the fires;
  • Hazardous air quality that poses health risks to students and staff;
  • And, the current conditions that make it unsafe for custodial and maintenance staff to prepare our campuses for a safe return.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff, and families.

Barring any unforeseen developments, the District plans to reopen campuses on Monday, January 13th

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this difficult time for our community.  Please continue to check the SGUSD District website, ParentSquare, and our Social Media platforms for the latest information. Together we will navigate these challenges and ensure our community remains strong and supported.

Take care and be safe,
Jim Symonds
Superintendent
